At the Meets

Bring a positive attitude to endure the heat and the organized chaos, a chair, towels, sunscreen, plenty of water, snacks (optional – there is usually a concession stand), and a sun hat or umbrella.

1. Check in with the child’s Team Parent. (VERY IMPORTANT)

2. Sit near the Team Parent if possible (especially important for the 8 and under swimmers). Have your child get with the Team Parent for line ups at least 2 events prior to their swim.

3. Look for the Meet Director and ask if you can help. (There are lots of things to do!)

4. After the meet, clean up your area, check for personal items, and help put up the equipment at home meets.

Criteria for Making the Team

- To make the team, swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool without touching the sides, ropes, or bottom and without stopping (see Hope Team policy below).

- 7&ups may be required to swim all strokes (Freestyle, Breast, Back, and Butterfly).

Hope Team

The first 24 registered non-swimmers (ages 4-8) will participate in the after school practices (see page 1). Once summer practices begin, the swimmer must be able to swim one length of the pool without touching the sides, ropes, or bottom and without stopping to make the team and continue with daily practices and meets. The others will be placed on the Hope Team roster. There are no scheduled summer practices for the Hope Team.

The Hope Team members are encouraged to get individual instruction (team coaches are available for private lessons), and, at any point during the season that they can meet the above criteria, they may try-out again as scheduled with the head coach. Registration is non-refundable.

Junior Coaches Program

This is an apprenticeship program for CWST swimmers who have completed at least the 8th grade, are 13 or older, and have an interest in coaching. Because of a high school athletics rule stating that no student can be paid for coaching in the field in which they compete, this is a volunteer program. If Stingray team members would like to be the first to be considered for a paid coaching position after they graduate, they MUST volunteer for this program. The Stingrays have a great history of volunteerism and we encourage all responsible teens to be involved in this program. Please contact the CWST Vice President for information and signup.

Relay and Lineup Rational

The coaches have the responsibility of assigning each swimmer’s strokes, heats, and relays – please respect their decisions. However, feel free to ask questions of the coaches as they would be happy to discuss their rationale (with swimmers as well as parents). Please refrain from interrupting them during meets and practices – a note or email requesting a reply works best. For in-season meets, coaches may change relay lineups weekly in order to find the best possible combination – changes are not permanent and the optimal combination may not be based strictly on times. For championship meets (finals and All-Stars), in general, relays that win together shall stay together. WHAT THE COACH SAYS, GOES. If, after discussing the matter with the coaches, you still have a problem or question, see the Meet Director or another Board Member.
